From Brandon to the Future! Congratulations Class of 2020!

A year ago, Brandon High School Senior River Jannette was contemplating a move to the West Coast to study industrial design.   Building a tremendous college application, he had volunteered for National Honor Society service projects and with the Robotics Team, served as Brandon High School’s Student Council Treasurer and was captain of both the cross country and track teams.

After talking with several university cross country and track coaches, he decided on Division II Metropolitan State University with academic and athletic scholarships in tow and a collegiate move closer to the Rocky Mountains in Denver versus the Pacific Ocean.

“I will be running cross country and track for Metropolitan State University in Denver,” says Jannette, “while working toward my four-year, bachelor’s degree in industrial design.  Going from a very close-knit community to a large city will definitely be different.”

Jannette is also immensely proud of the way he and his classmates handled the COVID pandemic.  “I remember when it started in March.  We were in AP Economics discussing the potential impact of COVID on the economy and stock market.  We were making bets if we’d be off of school the next week…  then we didn’t have school the rest of the year,” says Jannette.

He said his class missed out on a lot but found that they came together and did things like picking up gowns and driving cars through the high school parking lot and the start of the Water Wars.

“Denver will be unique, but I have a great relationship with my grandparents, parents and siblings” he says.  “I hope they come to visit me!”
